RiddoDuottarMuseat – The Sami Collections
The museum is suitable for anyone who wants to learn more about Sami culture, from individuals to families with children and groups.
The museum shows Sami history, tradition, culture and cultural diversity from coast to inland across the entire Sami area, across national borders. The Sami Collections manage over 5,000 objects and this is the largest museum collection representing Sami cultural history in Norway.
We offer digital guided tours using VAPPUS, the museum’s official app which can be downloaded on the mobile phone and is included in the admission price. The guided tours contain text, images, maps, audio and video relating to the buildings at the open-air museum. In the app, you can learn about Sami history, traditions and local communities, traditional architecture and building methods, crafts and art, outlook and spirituality, livelihoods and lifestyle.
We sell both hot and cold drinks and at the open-air museum, visitors can enjoy a snack they have brought by the campfire while feeling the historic rush from times gone by. If you want to roast sausages or other food over the fire, visitors are welcome to ask the museum guides to light a fire in a spare moment.
The children are challenged to learn more about the Sami culture by solving rebus tasks and exploring cultural monuments or other interesting places nearby via geocaching.
