FISHING FEE AND FISHING LICENSE
In order to be able to fish for salmon, sea trout and char in waterways or on the sea with fixed gear, you must pay the state fishing fee. Children and young people under the age of 18 do not have to pay fishing fees. The fishing fee is only needed if you are going to fish for salmon, sea trout or char in waterways or with fixed gear in the sea. You do not need to pay the state fishing tax when you fish inland fish. You do not need to pay a fishing fee or buy a fishing license to fish on the lake with a normal fishing rod/fishing equipment.

A fishing license is not required for people who live within the borders of the former Finnmark county when it comes to inland fishing. But in order to fish for salmon, sea trout or sea trout in watercourses or on the sea, people living in former Finnmark must also buy a fishing license for the watercourse in question.
All persons residing outside Finnmark must have a fishing license to be able to fish both inland and in waterways, with the exception of children under 16 years of age. Visitors between the ages of 16 and 20 are encouraged to register for a free youth card.

DISINFECTION
To avoid spreading infection between watercourses or to other parts of the same watercourse, fishing equipment, boats or other possible infectious objects must be disinfected, frozen or dried. This is to prevent infection by the salmon parasite Gyrodactylus Salaris. The salmon parasite, also called “gyro”, is a small parasite of less than 1 mm that today poses a threat to Norwegian wild salmon populations, and is currently detected in 48 Norwegian waterways. To avoid the spread or infection of gyro, you should remember the following:
- Do not move or release fish into the wild without permission from the County Governor
- Do not wash or gut fish in places other than where you caught it
- Do not move equipment from one watercourse to another without drying or disinfecting it
- Do not discharge water into a watercourse other than where it was collected.
