Reindeer cream and Rangifer Lips
Reindeer cream is based on oil extracted from reindeer hooves and marrow. The cream also contains a water decoction of calendula, an herb that is traditionally also used for eczema and skin ailments and is known to give soft skin. The cream does not contain perfume, but a few drops of chamomile oil for the scent. There are no parabens or petrolates here either.
The Sami have traditionally used fat from reindeer mainly for food, but fat from hooves and marrow has also been used against burns and skin disorders.
Compared to ordinary animal fat, reindeer oil has a high content of unsaturated fat. Reindeer oil has (in contrast to the fat on the rest of the animal and aminal fat in general) a high concentration of omega 6 and 9. These are fatty acids that are of great importance for cell growth, cell division and recovery. Some research shows that when the essential fatty acids 3, 6 and 9 are applied to wounds, it will cause the wound to heal faster. One assumes that it is the content of the essential fatty acids that is the reason for the relief of the skin problems.
Tests carried out on people with dry skin, eczema and psoriasis showed great improvement of dry skin and eczema, people with psoriasis experienced that the Reinol oil worked well as a skin softener and improved or removed the scaly skin, even if the outbreak itself changed little. The oil has good absorption and adds moisture and suppleness to the skin.
Reinkrem is the result of collaboration between Alf Mathis Eira and Fjellheim Urtekosemtikk.
