From time immemorial, Easter in Sápmi has been an important hub for the population of Kautokeino and Karasjok. Easter week contains concerts, reindeer racing, scooter cross, church services, exhibitions, theater and much more. The Easter Festival is not to be missed and is certainly the highlight of the year!
The Easter festival has deep roots that stretch far back in time, long before the term “festival” became common. This was a time when the migrants returned to the villages, and it was at Easter that children were baptized, confirmed and marriages were entered into. These events brought together family and friends from far and near, and a place where displaced residents returned to celebrate Easter. In line with this tradition, a festival has been established that includes concerts, markets and exhibitions. The festival also contains various sporting events, such as scooter cross, reindeer racing and cross-country skiing. In addition, activities are organized specifically aimed at children and families.
