Vuonnamárkanat – Varangerfjord’s Vibrant Market Tradition!
Take part in autumn’s coziest market!
We are located in Varangerbotn, which blooms to life during the autumn market Vuonnamárkanat every year. People flock from east and west to take part in this colorful and vibrant market tradition. Every year since 2005, the market has taken place on the last Saturday in August in the center of Varangerbotn.
Vuonnamárkanat, or Varangermarket in English , is more than just a market; it is a celebration of local culture, craftsmanship and community. The fjord is filled with a jumble of sales booth, where local craftsmen and artists show off their unique creations – everything from traditional Sami duodji to modern handicrafts and local delicacies.
We walk around and see nicely dressed Sami women, men and children smiling from ear to ear as they meet old friends and form new bonds. The atmosphere is completely indescribable and highly characterized by laughter, music and warm hospitality. The market is a cultural melting pot where visitors can explore the rich diversity of the region, from Sami traditions to coastal culture and modern urban trends. Food stalls tempt with local delicacies, from fresh seafood to traditional Sami dishes, while entertainment and music fill the air with a festive atmosphere.
For the children, there are separate activities and play areas, which makes the market a family-friendly event. In addition to the lively market, there are also various cultural events, concerts and lectures that explore the region’s rich history and diverse cultural heritage.
With its vibrant market and unique atmosphere, Vuonnamárkanat is an annual event that not only celebrates the past, but also looks to the future – a time to honor traditions, share stories and create unforgettable memories. The market takes place on the last Saturday in August each year with many handmade products and a unique opportunity to support local businesses. It is absolutely worth the trip.
